This is the View from the Pruitt Bridge, an old single-lane steel bridge. This bridge was taken down earlier this year. It had stood here for 90 years. Built in 1931, during the Great Depression, funded by the US Government and one of their many programs to pull the nation out of the Depression. The bridge was replaced by a steel and concrete bridge, that is much longer and curved.
While you can still see this view, still walk down to the Buffalo River, it doesn't have the same feel. It feels modern and refined. Not one of the qualities of the Ozarks, or the Buffalo River. This area has often been described as taking a step back in time. The rough mountain terrain made expansion and development hard. This beautiful area stayed undeveloped and one could use the word primitive to describe it, all the way until March 1, 1972. When the River became a National River, protected under the National Park Service. One of the few remaining, free-flowing rivers in the lower 48.
This beauty was almost lost when in the 1930s when the great depression was starting when this bridge was built. Thoughts of creating jobs were in everyone's mind. This river could create jobs and power, But the beauty would be lost. All of it would be flooded. The prehistoric ruins, the old homesteads, the smallmouth bass, the tallest waterfall between the Rockies and the Appalachians, untouched forests, families that have been there for 8 generations, the elk, Boxley church that still holds baptisms in the river, would all be lost, flooded. All of the valleys, hollows, and caves, would be gone forever.
The people of Northern Arkansas in the counties surrounding the river began the fight for the Buffalo and won. The river was made into a National Park, forever to be untouched. A place of history, sacred ground, a place where time has stopped. You can still go to rush and see the town and zinc mines, still see Wild Vick's Cabin and Granny Henderson's Cabin. Still walk into these homes, still see the old cast iron stove, a bed frame, a skillet. Wallpaper on the walls, and the trails surrounding these homes.
While this picture looks basic, looks like just another bluff. One of the many that you can find along the river. This one is fairly unremarkable. What makes this one special is how the river runs right next to it and you can drive right to it. This picture represents all of the histories this river holds. All of the beauty it has created, the lives it supported, the quietness in the nonstop world we live in, a chance to escape the responsibilities of our adult lives, a place where we leave cell service, our jobs, our worries, our stress behind. A time and place in history that hasn't changed in a thousand years. This river will always be here to welcome you home.
This Print will be made on thick matt paper. If you choose to have it matted it will be with a nice, lightly textured, cream matt board. As with all of my matted prints they will have a backer board and be ready to drop into one of your own frames.
All of the prints will have a small white border, which will not be seen when matting/framing.
This is available with or without a cream matt.
With the matt, you will need a frame that is one size bigger. For an 8x10 print, you will need an 11x14 inch frame. An 11x14 print will need a 16x20 inch frame.
All of my prints are archival inkjets, with ink rated to last without fade for 100 years in proper storage or display. The sun will fade prints if they are not protected and extreme impurities in the air.
The frame is not included.
Glass is not included.
Each print will be signed. Either on the matt or on the print, with silver ink.
This is not ready to hang, you will either need a frame or some other kind of hanger, this is either just the print or the print with a matt that will fit a frame. If you buy one with the matt then you will need to take the matt that comes with the frame out. No additional backing is needed, but if the frame has room for it, it will make the print more stable.
When selecting shipping you have to select the option that is for PRINT ONLY. It is clearly labeled. If you selected any other option then I can not ship it to you. If you selected the frame option then I can not ship it. This print does not come with a frame. You can either have it with matt or without matt. Those are your only options.
